The Ability of Management Thinking

I have a simple belief about the leader and leadership. For me, leadership qualities of a leader is measured from the work, not the oration or discourse, although the ability oration perhaps one important skill for leaders. Look at Allah's statement in Al Qur'an: And say: “Work (righteousness): Soon will Allah observe your work, and His Messenger, and the Believers: Soon will ye be brought back to the knower of what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that ye did.”[QS. At-Taubah, 9: 105]


Consider also a stark warning of Allah SWT in other parts of Alquran: O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not? Grievously odious is it in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.[QS. Ash-Shaff, 61: 2-3]

Sound management paradigm is the basic capital to be able to lead transformational change successfully. Think with management to make a leader capable of describing the road map (road map) will deliver the changes that led from a position of communities here and now towards the future of Dreamland. Quality of management thinking that would also clearly distinguish between the ideals of mere wishful thinking, vision of the wish.

Without the ability of management thinking not unlike many leaders become mere orator or a philosopher, even a provocateur, a skilled pouring pearls of progressive-revolutionary thinking in the pithy words, whether in speech or writing that sharp, but still not succeeded in realizing a single great idea in reality community. They fly to the sky dream. Their hearts beat faster. Their blood surge. It is hardly wait to conquer the world. But what happens when the speech was finished? When they have to go back to the real world? When they are faced again with the reality that is too far from ideal? They are like hitting a wall, or met with an impasse, because the leader was unable to show the country road map to that dream.

True that the leader should be visionary. But leaders must also be transformative, able to parse that vision into a number of milestones between, while acting as coachman who spurred his horses to pull the train moving from one milestone to the next milestone, and so on, until arriving at the destination terminal.

In the previous section we discussed the first two signs in the management, namely process, as well as systematic and logical. Full awareness and appreciation about the purpose of this is what makes a leader into a dynamic figure, which combines the two sides, which seemed paradoxical. On the one hand he is very strong - consistent, consistent, and presisten - with goals to accomplish. But on the other hand he is very flexible in selecting and determining the way - including the systems and procedures - which he believed most likely to help him achieve that goal. Like a driver.
